Adult only...
Who had one of these receptions for their wedding?
It irritates me to no end! (sorry for my friends who had this)
Let me preface, I completely understand the idea that you want to spend your wedding evening with only adults. I understand you don't want kids crying during the speech. I understand that the sight of kids running loose on your wedding day might not appeal to you.
HOWEVER, in the real world, people have kids!
D is in a wedding, and it is 3 hrs away. We had planned on spending two nights due to the rehersal etc....but we got the invite yesterday that said ADULT ONLY.
So, instead of us having a nice family drive, hotel stay and wedding...instead of getting my 3 boys all cute...instead of ME getting to get a new dress and feel pretty for one evening....I get to stay home and let Dave go alone.
*Before you suggest that I leave them with the grandparents, A:one set is obviously attending the wedding, and B:my parents are physically not strong enough for the task. Not happening*
So off we sent our RSVP with # in attendance:1

Ok, I will admit, I was one of them. I had an adult only reception.
My reasoning is not because of anything you mentioned, but only because I have a trillion cousins who are all young and I would have had to pay for each of them to eat an adult plate (with alcohol). So instead of footing a bill for kids who would hardly eat and obviously couldn't drink, I opted to have it be an adult only reception.
BUT...if someone would have called me with a situation such as yours, I would have definitely made an exception.
Since Dave is in the wedding, couldn't he make a phone call asking if that would be allowed and explain the situation? Since he would be travling out of town to be in their wedding, you would think it wouldn't be a problem. The worst they could say is no and then at least you would have asked. Just a thought.

I didn't even think about it at my wedding becaue I don't really know too many people with kids (now I do, but didn't then). I think there were four children there.
I agree with Linda, I think they should make an exception for people in the bridal party who have to travel.

I say take the kids anyway;)lol.
That does stink! I look forward to every opportunity to get out.

I agree with what Linda said. I think you should call and ask. It wouldn't hurt!!!
I've had a few of those "adult" only invites too. Makes it hard!!!

I say that's a bunch of crap! What is this "Adults only"?!?! You don't invite people, especially ones IN the wedding, and expect them not to bring their kids.

When I had my wedding, I had an ADULTS ONLY reception, but anyone who was from out-of-town was told to bring their kids. Last summer my SIL got married and invited everyone who could have watched my son, so we brought him. He had a blast! Have your husband CALL THEM. I am sure they probably have not thought about a situation like yours; they are too in the moment of their big day. You will have a much-needed great time, as will your family. Plus, we brought food for our son, so ordering him food was not an issue, if they are worried about that. Don't delay--CALL THEM! Am I being bossy enough??? I would just hate for a fellow sleep-deprived mom to miss out on an opportunity like this!

Have you thought about bringing a babysitter with you for the weekend? We did that for an adult only wedding and it worked well. We got to enjoy the wedding together and still spend the weekend with our daughter. Good luck...I personally don't think a wedding is fun without kids dancing at the reception!

Bev, girl you crack me up! haha!
Dave did call yesterday because he had to give his tux measurments.
No deal...can you belive it!
They are having a babysitter watch ALL the kids in a building 20 min away from the reception.
NO THANKS!
I don't even know this woman (who is probably 18ish) and I'm not leaving my kids 20 min away!
Maybe in the same hotel so I could go check on them, but not 20 min away!!
Grrrr!!!
7:40 AM
Ok, that is a bunch of crap! As far as hiring someone to watch the kids, well, that was a good idea, but 20 MINUTES AWAY?! I agree with you, no way! Wait until these people have kids! UGH! I am so sorry; it sounded like it would have been a great opportunity for a night of fun. Too bad SOME people don't think of others.
